KATA는 ‘아래로부터의 역사(History from below)’라는 작가의 창작 방법론에서 ‘아래’를 계층적 차원의 것이 아니라 지리적 차원의 것으로 오독하면서 지하 세계의 아름다움을 찾아본다. KATA: Bonne descente는 ‘수셰’, ‘코르베’, 그리고 그들의 반려견 ‘베르타’로 이루어진 한 가족의 하강을 쫓아, 카타필(Cataphile) 공동체가 재구축한 비공식 카타콤으로 우리를 인도한다. 동시에 지상의 시스템으로는 이해하거나 감각할 수 없는 순간들을 이야기로 펼쳐 보이며, 이 모든 것이 ‘불법’이라는 경계를 넘어야만 포착된다는 아이러니를 드러낸다.

KATA seeks the beauty of the underground world by deliberately misreading the “below” in the artist’s methodology of History from Below not as a hierarchical position, but as a geographical one. KATA: Well descent follows the descent of a family consisting of Souchet, Corvée, and their companion dog, Bertha, guiding us into the unofficial catacombs reconstructed by the Cataphile community. At the same time, it unfolds narratives of moments that cannot be understood or sensed through the systems of the surface world, revealing the irony that such moments can only be captured by crossing the boundary of what is deemed “illegal.”
